Google seems to be the favorite search engine of a lot of folks these days and they have come out with a tool that you may find particularly interesting. It is a new keyword research tool that produces trend results.

Google's trend can generate graphs based on the number of searches people make on specific keywords. These keywords or keyword phrases are tracked by the country, city and date they are made. This makes for some interesting speculation.

Just for fun, I tested the keyword phrase "home based business" since that is the phrase I was most interested in. It showed me that there was a slight increase in searching for this keyword phrase from the years 2004 to 2005. More importantly, there were significantly more searches done for the phrase "home based business" in 2006. If this is going to actually define a trend, it might be telling us that business opportunities are going to be generating more interest in 2007. That means for those of us who already see the value in owning our own business growth may be eminent. Good news as far as I can tell.

Another fascinating aspect about the Google trend results for the home based business search is what parts of the world are doing the most searching for "home based business'. If we carefully look at the results under the "cities" search, we can see people in the United Kingdom, specifically in Dartford, are hottest about home based business opportunities.

The difference between searches done in the United States and England seem phenomenal. It almost seems that maybe there is a mad programmer sitting behind many computers doing the same old search over and over. Maybe the Google trends program is fouling up somewhere. Maybe people in the United Kingdom are really really ready for home based business opportunities.

Another interesting note is the "regions" that were searching 'home based business.' India ranked number one, followed by South Korea, Malaysia, Canada, Philippines and the United States. Clearly there are people all over the world looking for home based businesses.

I tried another key word, "income" to see what the Google trends could provide. The top four results were countries in India, including Bangalore, Mumbai, Delhi, and New Delhi. The trend seem to be consistent over time with no indication of any rise or decline of interest.

I tried the keyword phrase "home based business opportunities" and India again came in first for the number of searches for that phrase. Canada came in second and the United States came in third. Actually as I look more carefully at the results, it only shows one section in time, which has been evaluated. I'm thinking this result isn't valid. It may be one of the Google hiccups.

O.K. Just for fun, I put in the keyword, sex and the ranking results for countries was Pakistan, Egypt, India, Iran and then Turkey. In the same results graph, the city that ranked number 1 was in India. In fact, India appeared in 4 out of 10 results. Turkey was in the other 6. This doesn't correlate with their country results.

Although I started out thinking this Google trend tool was going to provide us with some good information, it clearly needs some help getting this tool to work correctly. I think when it does get working properly it may be a good tool. I wouldn't rely to much on the accuracy of this tool right now. It will have to have another review in a few months.
